Tip 1: Inspiration
Inspiration is a key ingredient in Fan Fiction writing. The easiest and most commonly used way authors conceive a Fan Fiction plot is by paying attention to what they predict/hope will happen later in the series. For instance, if a writer thought for some reason that in the upcoming seventh book Harry would try out for a professional quidditch team, that writer could develop a Fan Fiction expanding upon that idea. More often than not, your one idea will trigger other ideas that will lead to even more ideas that you may be able to use. It’s a similar concept if one incorporates what they predicted/wished would have happened in an earlier book. A writer can also tackle the challenge of writing a prequel or a sequel. What was Hogwarts like when James and Lily attended? What happens to the Golden Trio after they graduate from Hogwarts (if they do at all)? If none of those tactics spark ideas you can always take experiences from your own life if they’re relevant. For example, say you and your friend just got into a huge fight, how would Harry and Ron deal with your situation?
Well, I hope this got your proverbial wheels turning!
