Alan Rickman was born to Irish and Welsh parents in 1946 and attended the Royal College of Art where he wanted to be a graphic artist. At the age of 26 he won a scholorship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where he studied for three years. His first major role was in the blockbuster Die Hard. He played Hans Gruber. Source
